Ich kenne den Film "I can't think straight" als romantische Komödie mit Kultpotenzial, aber was Larissa in ihrem Video zusammengeschnitten hat, lässt den Film in ganz anderem Licht erscheinen. Am besten, Ihr überzeugt Euch selbst. Und falls sich Heteros hier verirrt haben sollten: If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen!

What a beautiful movie! It's about the world unseen, the words unsaid, and the things undone. Shamin Sarif's first movie "I can't think straight" seems to be more popular than "The World Unseen", but this one deserves at least as much credit as the first one. The storyline takes place in South Africa at the time of the Apartheid. The rigid regime made people hide things from another, and one of the things that have to be hidden is the growing love between Miriam, wife and mother of three kids, and the owner of an Indian café Amina. Their looks and gestures betray their feelings for each other but how can they find a way to live them? I chose a song that was published at the same time when the storyline took place (1957): Doris Day's "When I fall in love".

Was für ein schöner Film. Auch wenn "I can't think straight" von Shamin Sarif bekannter zu sein scheint, so gebührt doch ihrem zweiten Film "Die verborgene Welt" mindestens ebenso viel Ruhm. Die Handlung - Shamin Sarif hat hier ihren eigenen Roman verfilmt - spielt im Südafrika der 1950er Jahre zur Zeit der Apartheid und zeigt deren Auswirkung auf das Leben der Menschen. Vieles kann nur im Verborgenen geschehen, so auch die Liebe zwischen Miriam, Ehefrau und Mutter von drei Kindern, und der Cafébesitzerin Amina. Die Beziehung der beiden Frauen steht im Mittelpunkt dieses zurückhaltenden Films, in dem die Blicke und Gesten wichtiger sind als das Gesagte.
